Berkeen : Evergreen Cutaway

The scene opens in a spartan looking office somewhere in Imperial space. The Imperial Seal is emblazoned on one wall, the ISB seal is on the opposite wall. An ISB officer is seated behind the large desk, consulting a computer terminal. A junior officer is seated in front of the desk, using a poratable terminal. The junior officer is speaking…

"As you can see sir, according to our projections the collateral damage from such a move will be negligible. The estimate is accurate to within point oh-two-five."

"What about the potential that his daughter won't stick to our agreement? She may still decide to take over the throne after her 'dear' father is killed. We don't need a martyr giving her even more hold over the planetary government than he has."

"Our informant has assured us that the girl wants money far more than she wants to rule. Not to mention that the credits we're offering her will allow her to pursue her…ah…other interests."

"I've seen the holos your man took. Disgusting, to say the least. A shame her father won't ever get to see them. One look might have saved us the dose of poison."

"True. So, we have your approval to proceed?"

"Yes. But keep someone on the daughter until further notice. I don't want us to loose track of her. If she even appears to be thinking about changing her mind, I want her eliminated before she completes the thought."

"Understood."

"Is that all for today?"

"There is one outstanding item. The information from Source Evergreen about the base on Berkeen. Apparently the Rebels have several squadrons of fighters based there that have been harassing supply convoys in the Sector. The Navy has been unable to locate the base and has requested any intelligence we have on Rebel activities in the area."

"Requested? Not demanded? How heavy have their losses been?"

"If you consult your screen, you can see a graphic representation of the last few months. There has been a large increase in TIE fighters lost over the last several weeks. Apparently the Rebels on Berkeen have acquired some of the newer A-Wing fighters."

"Do we have any assets in place?"

"Yes sir. Open file number 64 and you will find the dossier of a sleeper we have on Berkeen. Codename is Whisper."

"Hmmm. Five years? Will he still respond?"

"I believe so, sir. Probability estimate is 75%."

"Is there any way this information can be traced back to Evergreen?"

"No sir. Evergreen is completely clean."

"Very well. Activate Whisper. And create a false agent's report to supply the Navy with the location of Berkeen. I'm not completely convinced that Whisper's conditioning will still be intact."

"And if it is?"

"Then the Navy will be there just in time to collect the bodies…"
