Escape (page 2)

"Well, what do now?" inquired the brown-furred being to his assembled Rebellion friends. There was six of them hastily assembled in the entertainment area of the B-12 Bacta transport, the Theta-2Y. It had been their first real chance to talk in almost two busy hours since they had attempted contacting their cohort, B'at, and been doing short hyperspace jumps back and forth around this section of space. B'at was the final member of the group that was away from them at the moment on his ship the Rodian's Folly. The motley group of Rebellion conspirators consisted of the light, brown-furred ape-like being named Mal, a huge black cat-like being named Loki, and four humans Walsh, Ace, Jarrod, and Stave. Walsh, Ace, and Jarrod appeared to be about the same age, but Stave was definitely the senior member of the humans.

"Well, first we better take inventory of the situation." said Jarrod as he pulled a chair up to a table and began setting up his datapad.

"We don't have much more time to disssscusss thissss." hissed Loki.

"I know," replied Jarrod, quickly typing in a few notes, "but we just can't sit here in committee waiting on Hamar to show up."

"Yeah, plus the natives are restless back there." said Ace, referring to the bacta module hold where they had stored the thugs and crew that were on the bacta transport when the group arrived. "It's going to be feeding and fresher break time soon!"

The group of Rebels had been hired by Hamar-Chaktak, a local Tapani Herglic merchant to use some Manta starfighters to intercept, dock, and then hijack a bacta transport for him. The group of Rebels had been looking for a way to get hold of 6 starfighters to meet with an unknown group that had contacted the Rebels by messenger and indicated they might be willing to join forces with them if they would demonstrate their loyalty to the cause by bringing 6 starfighters with them to specified coordinates at a certain time. The opportunity arose for the Rebels to meet with Hamar to pull off this job, allow them to keep the starfighters plus the addition of being able to retain some bacta for themselves. After the Rebels had docked with the bacta transport by using the Manta starfighters' magnetic docking capabilities, the Rebels had entered the transport by cutting their way in, things began to go a little awry when they met some resistance from the crew plus the group of Rebels discovered a large group of thugs holed away in one of the bacta modules that had been outfitted to allow for a breathable atmosphere. The same group of agitated thugs that now resided in the locked bacta module along with the nervous crew members of the bacta transport.

"Ah, no problem." said Jarrod as he continued to concentrate on his datapad. "I'll just cut the air on them again and it will be sleepy time."

"We don't want to make a habit of that," warned Walsh. "I'd hate to see permanent harm come to them."

"That's nothing," Ace said to Walsh, "If we really wanted to scare them, we'd send you into the bacta module alone with nothing but a stick."

Walsh glared back at Ace, briefly remembering the time on Omze's Traveling Starport where Walsh had quickly dispatched the Rodian head security guard with his staff, "I'm not especially proud of that moment." said Walsh sternly.

"If we can stick to the topic gentlemen." interrupted Stave before Ace had a chance to add something else. "We have a lot of things to consider and not the luxury of much more time to do it."

"OK," Jarrod said as if none of the others had said anything at all, "now the way I see it is that we have one bacta hauler with 15 modules of bacta, a total of 31 crew members, 1 mercenary guy, and 20 rent-a-mercs, 4 working Manta fighters, plus 1 damaged pretty bad, a few credits,"

"3,000 worth." interjected Ace.

"Something like that." replied Jarrod coyily. "And 3 bottles of spice liquor."

"Tally sound good to Mal." said Mal.

"Yesss, sssso can we hurry thisss up?" Loki asked, "I need to head back up to the cockpit sssoon."

"I'm thinking that since we got the fighters plus a tanker full of bacta, we should move on to meet our contact." said Walsh.

"You mean our contact at the coordinates in the Allandor System." added Stave.

"Not have enough fighters, right?" asked Mal.

"Four not sssix, but better than nothing." said Loki.

"Irregardless, I don't know if we can make it by the designated time" Walsh said.

Still concentrating on his datapad, Jarrod added, "We could take one of the bacta modules and sell it and maybe buy us a fighter or two depending whom our buyers end up being."

"I'm not too crazy about that idea since bacta is hard enough to get a hold of anyway." said Stave. "Besides, we really could use it for the Rebellion."

"Whatever we decide," said Ace, "someone should attempt to signal B'at again to meet us wherever we end up going."

"I like that idea, too." agreed Walsh. "We may need backup."

"Coordinatesss were sssent the firssst time." said Loki. "We are going to sssame coordinatesss previousssly sssent." Loki, grinning wickedly, then added, "Don't forget about the Rodian-in-the-box."

"Yes," began Stave, "we still have to figure out what to do with the Rodian bounty hunter that is with B'at on his ship." The Rodian bounty hunter was captured by the group on a previous adventure when they were on the planet Neona shortly after they were contacted by the messenger and is being held captive in a crate on the Rodian's Folly.

"We can deal with the Rodian later." said Ace. "First we need to deal with the 50 plus beings we have on this ship in captivity. I don't think things will be very pretty when we open the door on that bacta module, so we better come up with a plan fast."

"Enough!" shouted Mal. This caught the full attention of all of the group members as they rarely ever heard him yell about something. "Debate must end! Decisions now!"
